On a quick stop in West Lafayette, we checked out Mad Mushroom near Purdue University. The massive, quirky space set the tone, but the real highlight was the food—cheesy, well-balanced Cheesestix and a solid pepperoni pizza with a slightly sweet, sturdy crust. Add in a standout garlic dipping sauce, and it’s easy to see why it’s a late-night staple for students.

Still hungry after Indy Pizza Fest, we made a perfect call heading to Sam’s Square Pie downtown. The Detroit-style pizzas delivered crispy edges, bold toppings, and standout flavor—especially the “Just Kissed My Baby” and “Loving Cup.” With a welcoming owner, generous samples, and a fun atmosphere, it’s clear this spot is a serious contender for Indy’s best Detroit-style pizza.

Pizza Uncommon in Westfield combines a sharp new space with standout garlic cheesy bread, creative options like a Crab Rangoon pizza, and flawless classics like double pepperoni and bacon, making it worth a return visit.
