Mad Mushroom Pizza in West Lafayette

Chris and I stopped here on our way to the Chicago airport, and we were able to check this West Lafayette staple off our bucket list. Mad Mushroom, not to be confused with Mellow Mushroom, has multiple locations in town and then nowhere else in the state. We went to the 320 West State Street location in the buzzing heart of the newly expanded apartment area catering to Purdue students.
I remember when I walked in my first impression is that the place was massive and had a weird layout - almost like it had been a nightclub in a past life or something. It had half walls, multiple different counters, an archway (?) and seemed a little unnecessarily jumbled. Maybe they need all the space to handle 2am lines of college students?
We started with Cheesestix cut party style into rectangular strips. The crust was perfect with a hint of sweetness and the cheese was thick and rich - they definitely did not skimp on the cheese.

We kept it basic with a pepperoni pizza, and the crust again had that same hint of sweetness as the Cheesestix. It was flexible but sturdy enough to hold up to the toppings and had a pleasant greasiness. Not quite a tavern style, but definitely on the juicy side.

We really liked the dipping sauce, which was a third party sauce it looks like but I made a note to take a photo of the container. Prima Guida garlic sauce.
That's about all there is to say about Mad Mushroom, we'll keep it short - just like our quick stop on the way to the airport - but I can see why it has a reputation as the go-to late night pizza place for so many Purdue students.
